High-precision seed metering

Tempo L Central Fill is built around a decentralized seed supply concept. Instead of a central metering unit, each row unit regulates its own seed demand to support the individual high‑precision PowerShoot seed metering system.

The row‑by‑row control ensures that seed supply matches the requirements of each row unit, maintaining consistent precision across the full working width.

Central seed supply

A central 3,000‑litre seed hopper supplies the row units via an integrated feeding system located beneath the hopper.

Each gate in the feeding system supports two row units through a divider on the wings. When airflow is active in a gate, seeds are picked up and transported to the corresponding row units.

Seed collector

Each row unit is equipped with a seed collector positioned above the PowerShoot seed metering system. The collector acts as a small buffer, ensuring a continuous supply of seed to the row unit.

When the collector is full, airflow to that row unit is stopped, preventing unnecessary seed transport.

Calling for seeds

As the seed level in a collector drops, airflow is reactivated and seeds are transported to refill it.

This demand‑based operation allows each row unit to call for seeds independently, ensuring stable seed supply and consistent planting performance across the machine.

Väderstad Tempo L high capacity hopper

High‑capacity fertilizer metering

Tempo L 16 and 24 Central Fill models can be equipped with a 5,000‑litre fertilizer hopper. Fertiliser is metered using the high‑capacity Fenix III metering system, with a capacity of up to 350 kg/ha at 15 km/h.

The electrically driven Fenix III system supports variable rate fertilizer application to match varying field conditions. High metering capacity and application precision are maintained even at high working speeds.

Illustration of variable rate and depth map

Variable rate

Each row unit is individually electrically controlled, enabling variable rate on a row‑by‑row basis. Crop establishment can therefore be adapted to local field conditions.

Seed, fertilizer and micro granulate rates can be adjusted according to local yield potential, helping to balance plant population and use inputs more efficiently.

Rate can be controlled manually or automatically using GPS and ISOBUS Task Controller.

Variable depth

Planting depth can be adjusted on a row‑by‑row basis to place seed where moisture and soil conditions are most favourable, supporting consistent emergence and uniform crop establishment.

Depth can be controlled manually or automatically using GPS and ISOBUS Task Controller.

Row by row shut-off

Row‑by‑row shut‑off

Overlap planting is avoided by shutting off individual row units in irregular field shapes. This helps save seed and inputs while maintaining accurate placement across the field.

Shut‑off can be controlled manually or automatically using GPS and ISOBUS Task Controller, supporting precise planting even in complex field layouts.

Easy to use tramlining

Tramlining

During planting, selected row units are automatically shut off to prepare tramlines that match sprayer tyre tracks. Spraying later in the season is simplified and consistent traffic patterns are maintained in the field.

With Dynamic Tramlining, tramlines are controlled using the GPS signal from the tractor ISOBUS system. The machine shuts off the required row units when needed, regardless of their position on the planter.

Individual calibration

Individual calibration

Working with different seed types often means different seed rates and row spacings. Tempo makes this possible within the same machine.

Because each row unit is individually electrically controlled, different seed rates and row spacings can be handled accurately across the machine. This is particularly useful for seed growers and farms planting multiple crops, while maintaining consistent placement for every row.

Active hydraulic downforce

Active hydraulic downforce helps maintain consistent planting depth by automatically adapting row unit pressure to changing soil conditions. This supports stable furrow quality across the field and reduces the risk of sidewall compaction or uneven emergence.

Auto singulation monitors and optimizes

With automatic motors on each row unit, seed singulation is continuously monitored and optimized. This saves time and increases the productive time in the field.

Curve compensation ensures a consistent rate

Active sensors communicate when the machine is turning and adjust the metering output of each row unit to always ensure a consistent rate over the full Tempo planter width.

Telescopic wheel axle

Tempo L is fitted with a telescopic wheel axle to ensure the transport wheels follow the selected row spacing. Adjustment is easily carried out from the cab, allowing the wheels to run between the seed rows regardless of row spacing.

For transport, the wheel axles can be set to a width of 3 metres.

Illustration of different crops

One machine for multiple crops

Tempo is designed to plant a wide range of crops, including maize, sugar beet, soya beans, sunflower, oilseed rape, cotton and sorghum.

Different seed discs are used to match crop and seed size,  allowing the same planter to be used across a wide range of crops throughout the season.

Excellent crop emergence

Small seeds kit

Planting small seeded crops at shallow depth requires gentle and precise seed placement. The Tempo small seeds kit is designed to support crops such as oilseed rape and sugar beet, helping achieve reliable establishment while widening the use of the high‑speed planter.

Suspended stop wheels help ensure good seed‑to‑soil contact without disturbing shallow‑placed seeds, while adjustable closing wheel angles allow the seed trench to be closed according to need. This supports even emergence and consistent results when planting small seeds.

The system enables the planter to follow field irregularities and maintain consistent working depth across the full width, supporting even crop emergence.

Väderstad Tempo speed is not an issue

Controlled seed transport with PowerShoot

The Tempo seed meter uses positive air pressure to place each seed individually onto the rotating seed disc. Speed‑independent singulators ensure that only one seed at a time continues through the system.

When the seed reaches the seed tube, the air pressure is briefly cut off to transfer the seed accurately into the tube. Air pressure then takes control again, transporting the seed down to the soil.

Because each seed is given the same transport time from the seed meter to the seed furrow, placement accuracy is maintained even at high working speeds.

At Väderstad, we call this PowerShoot.

A well‑defined seed furrow

The shape of the furrow plays an important role in germination and early crop development. Tempo is designed to open a precise, well‑defined furrow and deliver the seed accurately to the bottom of it, creating stable conditions from the very start.

With the PowerShoot system, the seed tube is kept thin to support controlled and accurate seed delivery. Combined with improved disc angles, the row unit opens a narrower seed slot with less soil displacement. This helps reduce sidewall compaction and lowers the risk of dry topsoil falling back into the furrow.

Accurate depth control supports consistent placement across the field, even when working at higher speeds. The well‑defined furrow is easy to close and provides favourable conditions for early root development, supporting even emergence and crop establishment.

Optimal seed to soil contact

Reliable seed-to-soil contact

To carry precision through from the seed meter into the soil, Tempo is designed to ensure reliable seed-to-soil contact at the moment of placement. When the seed leaves the seed tube, it is immediately pressed into the bottom of the furrow by the stop wheel.

This action places the seed directly into untouched, moist soil from the start. By stopping the seed at the intended position and pressing it into the furrow bottom, the stop wheel helps maintain the conditions needed for germination.

Reliable seed-to-soil contact supports quick and even germination across the field, helping the crop establish uniformly and develop under consistent conditions.

Tempo Planter in field

Suitable for different tillage systems

Tempo is designed to maintain accurate seed placement at high working speeds across a wide range of field conditions and tillage systems, including no‑till, min‑till and conventional tillage.

High coulter pressure, together with a heavy‑duty row unit, helps the planter maintain consistent performance when conditions are demanding. This makes it possible to plant directly into stubble when conditions allow, helping to save moisture and maintain capacity during busy periods on the farm.

Effective row cleaners support consistent results by clearing residue from the seed row before placement. Combined with the robust row unit design, this helps create stable conditions for seed placement even in fields with high residue levels.
