Tillage

Ultra-shallow tillage

Ultra-shallow tillage

Ultra-shallow tillage is a tillage practise that fully cuts through the whole working horizon at only 2-3cm working depth. A tool working that shallow needs a high capacity paired with low sensitivity to residues.

Minimum tillage

Ploughless tillage is usually called reduced tillage and while this is not always completely correct, it reflects the intentions of such cultivation systems rather well: to reduce tillage compared with ploughed systems.

Ploughing on field

Conventional tillage

Ploughing is a reliable, tried and tested tillage method that works well in most conditions and provides a number of unique advantages. In one pass, the plough produces a straw-free surface and loosened soil in which a seedbed can be created and a new crop established.

Seeding

Starter phosphorus secures the harvest during dry and cold springs

Phosphorus in a plant-available form is crucial for crop development, especially during the early growth stages up to growth stage 30. The availability of phosphorus during this period affects both tillering and root development. Well-developed roots are vital for the plant's ability to withstand prolonged dry periods. These factors directly influence the yield level and indirectly affect the harvest timing, as phosphorus deficiency delays maturation.

Rendering of Väderstad floating row cleaners

Optimise your row cleaner settings

The row cleaner helps clear the furrow before the seeding unit, ensuring a seedbed without the risk of hairpinning. It also reduces the amount of stones or clods, providing a smoothe ride for the gauge wheels, which in turn improves the depth control of the planter.

Väderstad Rapid 400C direct drilling in field

Direct drilling

During direct drilling, the seed is placed without any prior soil cultivation in the stubble of the previous crop. Direct drilling is used mainly in dry growing regions such as Canada, USA, Russia, Ukraine and Australia, and to some extent in other parts of the world.

Soil basics

If you fully understand your soil, its building blocks as well as its characteristics, you hold a good foundation for an effective and sustainable farming.

To fully optimise your farm, we believe that you will need a deep understanding of how the soil works and reacts under different conditions. Because of this we have put together simple guides and facts about different soil types, soil structures and structure forming processes.

Seedbeds

How do you create an optimal seedbed, which characteristics should it have and which requirements should it fulfill? Since the seedbed, in several ways, is key to a high yield we would like to share our knowledge with you.

In the guides below you are presented with hands on facts of how you can create the best possible conditions for seeding, irrespectively of crops on your farm.

Soil analysis & protection

Since you soils constantly is in a changing process, it is important to be able to asses in which condition it is in. How does the soil look? And which structure does it have?

To dig up a piece of soil and perform a soil analysis, is something you will benefit from during your future farming. We would like to share the knowledge we have collected throughout the years. Below you find guides and facts about soil analysis, soil compaction and erosion.

Let nature do the work

As a farmer you inevitably have a great impact on the soil. Therefore we should always farm in a way that benefits the soil.

Below we have collected facts and guides about how you, with relatively small actions, are able to ensure that your soils are treated well.
