By being innovative, robust and capable of reliable crop establishment, the pneumatic seed drill Spirit is a machine that can create new opportunities in crop production. Its responsiveness gives consistently impressive precision in seed placement even at high speeds. The wide range of options available means that the machine can be adapted to different soil types and cultivation needs. The large hopper provides high capacity. The large, wide carrying wheels in the OffSet position efficiently reconsolidate and greatly reduce the draught requirement. Row spacing available as both 12.5 and 16.7 cm.
Works in both stubble and ploughed soil
Spirit can be adapted to different conditions with three different toolbar options, all of which are easily controlled from the cab.
On farms that plough the majority of their soils, the CrossBoard Heavy toolbar is recommended. CrossBoard Heavy crushes clods and levels furrows with awe-inspiring efficiency, while still keeping the draught requirement low.
On farms where tillage is carried out with a cultivator or a disc implement, the System Disc Aggressive toolbar is the most appropriate choice. The 45 cm large, individually mounted discs give high precision with minimal clod formation. The conical shape of the discs gives the same angle of attack, irrespective of wear or working depth. Their positioning in an X-shape ensures that the machine runs straight behind the tractor.
On farms that vary tillage depth according to the preceding crop and soil type, and thus plough or apply reduced tillage as required, the System Disc Aggressive toolbar with CrossBoard is the most suitable choice. CrossBoard is attached in front of the discs, which makes it easy to see from the cab. CrossBoard is available in two versions, CrossBoard Heavy and CrossBoard Light.

The centrally placed OffSet-positioned carrying wheels have a diameter of 820 mm and a width of 400 mm. This gives outstanding reconsolidation and levelling of soil and a smooth, stable passage in the field, even at high speeds. Each wheel is individually mounted, making it easy to repair, e.g. when a puncture occurs.
The OffSet positioning of the tyres reduces the draught requirement, gives a high throughflow of soil and plant residues and decreases the risk of soil drag.
The tyre pattern ensures perfect compaction across the rows with both the 12.5 cm and 16.7 cm row spacing.
Safe to transport
The two middle wheels of the machine are mounted on a bogie carriage, which increases the safety when driving on uneven roads.
High class metering
The Fenix metering system is completely corrosion-proof and well designed for metering both seed and fertiliser. The good-sized motor permits high seed rates at high speed. The flexible Fenix rubber metering roller has the great advantage of being gentle on seed and therefore the seed rate can be lowered, since there are almost no damaged seeds. It also prevents breakdowns as the motor is protected from total stoppages. A flap for shutting off the supply of seed and fertiliser to the metering system makes it easy to work even when the hopper is full.
Electronic seed monitoring system checks seed flow
Each seed row can be monitored individually with an electronic seed monitoring system, which sends an immediate alarm when the seed flow declines, so there is no risk of drilling with blocked seed coulters. With half-machine shut-off from the cab as standard on all models of over 4 m working width, seed can be saved on wedge-shaped areas and harmful double-drilling can be minimised.
The hydraulically adjustable coulter pressure means that the depth placement can easily be optimised for a range of different conditions, with lower pressure on light soils to full coulter pressure on heavier soils.
Through its shape, the triangular rubber cushioning, TriForce, ensures consistent downward force even at high impact and high speed. This helps to improve the seed placement radically on varying soils and uneven fields. The large diameter of the seed discs give a stable passage and this, together with the hard material, results in very long life. The discs are held in place with just one bolt, which saves time when changing them. The broad, unpatterned tyres of the press wheels mean that they maintain the same flat shape against the seedbed, irrespective of pressure. This ensures that the seed coulters stay at the right depth and that the seed slot is carefully closed, even on very light soils. The tyres are continuously in motion, keeping them cleared of soil, and since they have no air inside tubeless, there is no risk of punctures. The spokes prevent soil from fastening between rim and scraper.
Smooth, stable passage
All parts that enter the soil can recoil, which means that the frame remains very stable.
All moving joints on Spirit are unique Väderstad solutions that ensure a long life with consistent precision throughout.
Spirit is available in four different sizes, with three different toolbar options. Therefore Spirit can be adapted to any cropping system and to the required work capacity. All models are equipped with hydraulic coulter pressure control to save time in variable conditions.
Combi guarantees success
Adding the fertiliser during drilling gives a fast and reliable fertilisation effect. Since the fertiliser is placed in moist soil there is less dependence on rain, while at the same time yield is increased and nutrient use efficiency is improved. Spirit is available in combi versions 400C and 600C and there are two methods of applying fertiliser, FIX or Nordic.
With the FIX method, Väderstad has created a seed drill that also incorporates fertiliser into the row without any increase in the draught requirement. The fertiliser is placed in approx. 5 cm wide strips by fertiliser coulters mounted at 12.5 cm row spacing on the System Disc toolbar, while the seeds are placed behind this in distinct rows.
Spirit 600C Nordic, fertiliser placement for drought-prone soils
Spirit Nordic has a combi row aggregate with aggressive fertiliser discs that slice fertiliser down under a very high coulter pressure to the required depth between alternate seed rows without disrupting the seedbed, an advantage in spring drilling in drought-prone areas. Spirit Nordic also has a CrossBoard Heavy at the front for powerful levelling. The 5000-litre hopper gives high capacity.
Active coulter pressure and wing pressure
The LS hydraulics give Spirit 600C active coulter pressure. With sensors in the hydraulic system, the machine immediately detects whether it is on a hump or in a hollow. Specially designed fast valves compensate immediately for the pressure increase or pressure decrease. This keeps the coulter pressure at the pre-set value, regardless of the working angle of the coulters in relation to the rest of the machine. Therefore active coulter pressure control markedly increases the depth precision in undulating terrain.
The device also gives Spirit 600C active wing pressure whereby each section exerts the same force on the soil. This ensures that the coulters maintain the same drilling depth across the working width of the machine.
LS hydraulics provide benefits
Spirit 600C is equipped with load-sensing (LS) hydraulics. This provides benefits such as fewer connections, more control from the cab and easier turning on headlands and folding. The LS system also reduces the power requirement and the oil temperature, reducing the fuel consumption.
High positioned turbine fan
Spirit 600C has a newly developed extra powerful, low-noise fan. It is positioned high and integrated into the front part of the hopper. This high position minimises dust intake, which increases the precision and fan life. All air flows are adjustable with AirBalance so as to optimise the air distribution according to the respective seed and fertiliser type.
Centrally mounted following harrow increases flexibility
The new models of Spirit are built with a centrally mounted following harrow that engages the soil under its own weight. This construction increases the responsiveness and the working angle is easy to set. The harrow is spring-loaded, which is a great advantage in shallow drilling, since the working pressure applied can be matched exactly to the prevailing conditions.
Save passes with BioDrill
With BioDrill on Spirit, passes can be saved and a ley or catch crop can be precision-drilled at the same time as a cereal crop. BioDrill BDA 360 is a pneumatic seedbox. It has electric drive, which allows highly accurate setting of the seed rate from 1-30 kg/ha. The seed nozzles distribute the seed very evenly in front of the drill aggregates, where it is covered by the flow of soil around the seed discs and by the press wheel.
