Versatility in soil cultivation and the possibility to adapt to different conditions make the combination cultivator TopDown an excellent choice of cultivator. TopDown both slices and mixes large amounts of harvest residues into the cultivated soil profile, thereby increasing the rate of decomposition. The reconsolidation effect can be adjusted according to requirements and it is also possible to choose between different packer options. The machine can work at shallow depth or down 40 cm, in either case creating a seedbed in a single pass, which saves time and fuel.

Robust solutions for long life
Discs, levellers and packer have rubber cushioning, which extends the life of the main frame.
The welded tine fittings mean that the tine keeps its place, eliminating the need for after-tightening. The tine is attached to the frame by a specially designed bolt with conical bushing, which makes it maintenance-free and extends the working life. The hydraulic stone release can be adjusted steplessly up to 700 kg, which increases the working life of the frame. Set to the maximum, it maintains the working depth even in difficult conditions. The spring unit is fitted horizontally, which extends the life of the tine and allows it to rebound back quickly to the right depth.
Three machines in one
The combination cultivator TopDown is designed to slice up the entire soil surface, mix in harvest residues and loosen to depth, all in a single pass.
The front discs are suitable for shallow cultivation directly behind the harvester in order to mix in harvest residues and encourage volunteer and weed seeds to germinate. The cultivator tines are raised during this operation.
To use TopDown as a classical cultivator, the discs are lifted and the tines do the work. This type of operation can be used to break up a plough pan or a hardened soil layer. To work deeper into the subsoil, DeepLoosening points can be fitted on the rear tines.
High quality discs
The conical discs of specialist hardened Swedish V-55 steel are positioned at the front to maximise their slicing effect. Their diameter means that the discs leave a fine tilth behind, which is essential for good results. The conical shape of the discs allows them to maintain the same working angle relative to the soil, irrespective of wear or working depth. The greaseless bearings are fitted on the rear of the disc, thus allowing increased throughflow, while also extending their working life. Each disc is mounted on its own rubber-cushioned arm, which also helps to increase the throughflow and maximise the precision in cultivation.
TrueCut 470 discs works deeper and handles more residues
TopDown can also be equipped with TrueCut 470 millimetre discs that offers aggressive, deeper and more homogenous cultivation. With an improved soil grip it gains the added power to handle more residues. The distinctive and slightly larger “TrueCut-cutouts” of the 470 mm disc, penetrate the ground and crush and mix crop residues efficiently; leading to faster decomposition and thus a better field hygiene.
Tine distribution for optimal results
The 27 cm tine spacing allows good mixing and leaves a level surface. The distribution of tines on the frame and the frame height of 80 cm ensure good throughflow. A tine is positioned behind each wheel, so there are never any wheel tracks left behind the machine.
Shins and points create many possibilities
The various possibilities for cultivation, in combination with the range of shins and points, means that TopDown can carry out many different tasks without changing the tractor.
By using the range of points available to the optimum, it is easy e.g. to cultivate the surface to shallow depth while also breaking up deeper layers with the help of DeepLoosening and LowDisturbance points. It is also possible to achieve complete slicing across the entire working width. By fitting TopDown with folding tines, thereby decreasing the tine distribution, it is possible to reduce the draught requirement.
The working angle of the tines is designed to give the lowest possible clod formation.
The tines are fitted with a split point and a MixIn shin. Since the ordinary point wears many times faster than the shin, the split point ensures a constant mixing action. This design allows effective mixing and incorporation of harvest residues, since the soil is mixed several times in the same pass.
TopDown is fitted with hydraulically adjustable rotating levellers that can be altered as required. Rotating levelling discs are better than cheaper tine solutions on heavy soils. The levelling discs are maintenance-free.
Match packer to requirements
In dry conditions on heavy soils, strong reconsolidation is needed to crush clods, get decomposition underway and encourage weeds and volunteers to germinate rapidly. In that case, the entire weight of the machine can be carried on the packer. On lighter soils, the packer should not work too deep and then it can be set so that it just runs on the surface using only its own weight. In wet conditions on heavy soils, e.g. in autumn tillage before spring drilling, the packer can be removed completely. In cases where there are only wet patches within a field, the packer can be raised in those areas so that it does not compress the soil.
Choice of packer
SoilRunner is a U-profile packer in which soil acts on soil, leaving an open cultivated surface. Its construction means that SoilRunner does not clog up and since the U-profile is filled with soil, the wear is lower. The soil also adds additional weight to the packer, increasing the reconsolidation effect. SoilRunner is available as a single or double packer. The latter has a greater contact area and a lower draught requirement.
SteelRunner is a cultivating steel packer with enormous resistance to wear. It crushes clods efficiently and presses down stones. The deep profile makes it best qualified for medium to heavy soils. The shape results in the packer not only working the surface but also pressing crop residues into the soil and thus increasing the decomposition rate. Hanging scrapers keep the packer clean even in wet conditions.
Double SteelRunner is a very aggressive steel packer which works well in all soil types, including wet conditions. Because of the design of the packer the soil dries up faster, thereby allowing the farmer to quickly go out on the field for the next operation. Double SteelRunner creates a full depth reconsolidation and a heavy clod breaking. Double SteelRunner will be available for TopDown in the first half of 2017.
TopDown is designed so that the packer can be changed if required.

Make TopDown a seed drill with BioDrill
TopDown has a depth of variation and a range of uses covering most functions that could be required from a modern soil cultivation implement. Equipped with BioDrill it can also become an efficient seed drill, allowing fast establishment of crops such as winter rape and catch crops.
