An event which took place on April 25, 2013 in Ukraine attracted the attention of the world’s press. In the fields of Agro-Leader-Ukraine Ltd, a Väderstad machine set a record for planting. Within a 24-hour period, a Väderstad Tempo F8 planted 212 hectares of maize at a speed of 18 km per hour. Despite the high speed, the average yield turned out to be an average of 14 tonnes per hectare.
“The race in Ukraine proves that sowing of maize at a speed of 18 km per hour is possible. An average yield of 14.32 tonnes per hectare was confirmed. Generally in Ukraine the average maize yield is about 6 tonnes per hectare. Naturally we are very excited about the outstanding results”, said Vitaliy Filatov Director of Väderstad Ukraine.

Owing to the ability of Tempo to uniformly place and cover seeds, even at high driving speed, the maize plants looked like this in July 2013. This year, all those who participated in setting the record and other interested observers waited for harvest with great anticipation.
The harvest began in October 2013
The experts from the Ukrainian Research Institute officially recorded a yield of 17.7 tonnes per hectare at 30.7 percent moisture content, which converted to the standard of 14 percent moisture content is equal to 14.32 tonnes per hectare.
All cobs were the same length, 18-20 cm
The average number of lines per cob was 16-18 and the grains were large. At an average humidity of 29-30 percent, the weight of grain per cob was 230 grams.
According to Artur Gzhegozh, the chief agronomist at Agro-Leader-Ukraine Ltd, this extraordinary yield was achieved through a combination of three factors:
Sowing machine. The Tempo precision planter carried out uniform sowing of the maize, with no skips and no doubles.
Optimal weather conditions
Planned and timely fertilisation and plant protection measures
This test in Ukraine proves that sowing of quality seed maize at a speed of 18 km per hour is possible. An average yield of 14.32 tonnes per hectare was confirmed.
